How TruSculpt Flex Can Optimise Your Fitness Routine and Sculpt Your Physique

Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) has been successfully used as a rehabilitative, therapy and recovery modality for many years as a substitute for exercise to prevent muscle atrophy due to denervation (after stroke or injury) or following lengthy immobilization. Recent advances to these technologies have helped to realise the potential for the use of electrical muscle stimulation to improve muscle function, augment and optimise training performance of athletes, and sculpt the physiques of healthy individuals alike.

Dr. Jonathan Lee, Medical Director at the Aesthetic Studio Clinic, explains the science and why he has integrated this unique technology into his layered body sculpting plans for his patients.

What is TruSculpt flex?

Now available at The Aesthetic Studio Wellness, the Cutera TruSculpt Flex at is a state of the art, non-surgical body contouring device that utilises electrical stimulation for the improvement of muscle tone, muscle strength and muscle development in the abdomen, thighs and buttocks.

The TruSculpt Flex is a “next generation” electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) device, approved by the US-FDA for improvement of muscle development, strength and tone to the abdominal muscles, buttocks and thighs; as well as improving posture and reducing back pain by up to 30%.

The 45-minute treatments are done in-office, have no downtime, have results visible in as little as 4 sessions and continued improvements up to 3 months.

The Trusculpt Flex utilises bio-electric MULTIDIRECTIONAL DIRECT current MUSCLE Stimulation in 3 different algorithms to simulate a full body workout at an intensity unachievable through conventional exercise alone, helping to add definition and tone desired by men and women alike. It allows targeting of specific muscle groups, changing direction and polarity of muscle contractions at varying intensities to achieve levels of muscle overload and confusion required to initiate muscle hypertrophy.

Whereas other technologies in this class utilise High intensity electro-magnetic field stimulation (HIFEM) - using large magnetic fields over one muscle group at a time; these have limitations with no polarity and only single axis contractions possible.

TruSculpt flex utilises bio-electric direct current stimulation, and polarity changes of the electrodes in real time to achieve torsional contractions allowing multiple stimulation and contraction modes.

Who would Benefit from TruSculpt flex

The TruSculpt Flex treatments can be applied across a wide spectrum of patient groups (including active and non-active profiles) and are customisable to each individual’s own fitness levels and goals. A brief pre-treatment screen of your medical history is undertaken to ensure there are no contraindications such as chronic conditions of the abdomen or overlying skin; or electrical implants that may be unsuitable for treatment.

Typical patients we have treated have included:

  1. Patients who are beginning strength training who need an initial buildup of foundational core muscle strength and tone.

  2. Women after child-birth wanting to improve abdominal laxity and regain their abdominal tone.

  3. Patients already in “good physical shape”, who are already training at the gym, but are looking to take their fitness goals to the “next level”

  4. Male patients aged 30-50 complaining of stubborn abdominal fat and lack of truncal definition despite diet and exercise.

  5. Time-strapped individuals who need to optimise their physical training plans.

  6. Patients possibly suffering from chronic back pain or posture problems or as an adjunct to injury rehabilitation.

We are quite excited to see these treatments benefit these patients in ways beyond the simple cosmetic improvements to muscle mass and tone, and improve their posture and enhance performance in other concurrent sporting activity.

3 Types of Workouts

3 treatment modes are used to deliver three different workouts by replicating intensified squat, crunch and twisting actions.

Prep Mode:

Prep Mode is only necessary for non-active patients (first 2 treatments). It creates a twisting motion to warm up, stretch the muscles and slowly build a tolerance to muscle contractions.

Tone Mode:

Contracts the muscles and holds them to the point of exhaustion, followed by relaxing them to increase strength and enhance endurance.

Sculpt Mode:

Fast, deep, sequential contractions of the muscles for building muscle Mass.

After an initial course of 4-6 (twice a week) treatments, patients may elect to attend monthly or bi-monthly maintenance sessions. Best results are seen at 10-12 weeks after the initial treatment phase, before maintenance begins. Patients are recommended to drink plenty of water in the days following treatments to support an increased passage of urine and lymphatic drainage. Delayed Onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is commonly experienced 24-28h after treatment, similar to what you might experience after an intense workout.

TruSculpt Flex can be performed on its own, or used as an adjunct to a well planned physical training or strength building program, or in conjunction with other body sculpting technologies (for spot reduction of stubborn fat, inch loss and skin tightening) to sculpt a more attractive youthful silhouette.
